The course is an overview of the major areas of psychology, what psychologists do, and the methods employed in the investigation of basic psychological processes underlying human behavior. Areas reviewed may include: history, physiological psychology, learning theories, cognition, motivation, emotion, perception and sensation, human development, social psychology, abnormal psychology, therapy, and psychological issues of current debate in popular culture. The concepts examined will be linked to everyday reasoning and life.
Students are taught a general overview of psychology. As it is a 105 class, it is an introductory class and introduces students to the basics of psychology. In class we are taught by lectures and slideshows. The professor also gives us small assignments in class to see if we understand what was taught during the day. Online, we have small quizzes that go over what we are about to learn during the next class. We go over the concepts and history of psychology, but not really how it is involved today. This is a good class for students who are not going into a psychology major, to take in order for them to have some type of understanding of the field. Psychology is a topic that can be applied in all fields and majors along with everyday life. It is important for people to understand how to interact with others and also learn how others could be interacting with them.
The course as said before is taught through lectures and powerpoints. The way that I learn during the class is by taking notes. The notes can be seen with the example provided. I’ve taken psychology before and therefore I don’t need to look at the notes in depth or review them. The class is pretty much review for me. However, this work sample shows how I pay attention and copy the slideshow notes down. There is not much work to show growth or strengths in any area in this class.
