The CAS Core Handbook does a good job informing UNE’s students with their values and desires for them in their life after college. A misperception that people in today’s world have about liberal arts is that, “The cost of American higher education is spiraling out of control, and liberal-arts colleges are becoming irrelevant because they are unable to register gains in productivity or to find innovative ways of doing things” (Ungar). However, UNE provides a variety of ways students can learn with a multitude of different courses and programs available. UNE provides study abroad programs, many clubs, and STEM courses within their liberal arts educating technique. UNE wants students to obtain, “active learning, directed and engaged learning, lecturing and other didactic instruction, experiential learning, collaborative learning, and independent learning” (CAS Core Handbook). The handbook explains many ways of how students can achieve gains and productivity.
